Our latest creative work is a logo design for Excel Mechanical of Watertown, Minnesota. Excel is into making the world of water treatment, plumbing and other mechanical services a better one.

With a fresh face, S.K.i.N. Medical Spa’s new web design has hit the Internet. S.K.i.N. is a skincare and anti-aging services spa located in Blaine, MN.

S.K.i.N. has been a fun project and client for us as we’ve had our hands in many elements of helping launch this business. From the logo design, to photography, to the website, to a social media campaign.

Logo Design For A Start-Up Medical Spa

Five was recently lucky enough to be chosen to design the very first logo for a new business in the skincare industry here in the Twin Cites. S.K.i.N Medical Spa became a reality this summer and we played a big part by designing their logo and website (more on the website in a later post).

Below are the logo concepts we designed to start the process:

With just a few minor tweaks to one of the logo concepts, we had ourselves a winner. Sometimes one of the concepts is just the right look, right off the bat.

A company’s logo is so incredibly important in it’s branding, personality, perception, pride and tone. Both S.K.i.N and Five couldn’t be happier with the final logo result.

Logo Design Project Goes Clean & Green

While our main focus at Five Technology is usually web related, we won’t turn away the opportunity for great creative work in other forms when asked. Easiway Systems of Minnesota wanted us to design their new logo as they sought to align their brand with their trusted reputation, outstanding product line and then launch a new e-commerce website.

Over the last 20 years, EasiWay has grown to be a leader in the screen printing industry, making the most efficient and environmentally friendly screen cleaning and reclaiming products and solutions. They desired a new look that was crisp, clean, had a water element and a touch of green.

Here are are initial logo design concepts:

EasiWay was impressed and excited with their design choices and it made narrowing down a few to explore difficult. Through further discussion and ideas, one logo design concept was chosen to work from. We then presented a few versions and ultimately came up with a winner.

The team at Easiway Systems was great to work with and we are now creating their new product labels as well as their e-commerce enabled website. Stay tuned for the launch of the new website in the near future.

Our Logo Design Process Was Great, Your Logo Process Should Be Too

Two months ago when the name Five Technology was agreed upon we then had to give birth to a logo. I enlisted the help of Sarah Lavin, a freelance designer who I was referred to by our first client, Eventive Meetings. I was able to get a glimpse of Sarah’s skills and process from Eventive and knew she was a good fit for bringing our logo to life.

Planning & Discovery
Since I’m a creative guy myself I put together some samples of logo’s and design elements that inspire me. I also included some rough mocks of the web interface we were working on (which completely changed after our logo came alive). Sarah and I talked on the phone for about an hour and then she said she would have some structural concepts to me in a week. It’s important to get the structure down on a logo before you get carried away with colors and other details. After just a few days my inbox had the logo concepts below.

We liked the strong and solid feel that the far right concept gave us. It embodied the trust and strength we wanted to convey to our market.

Colors & Variations
Next came laying out some color options and tweaking the layout. I won’t make you look at the 12 to 15 different structural and color combinations that we made Sarah pull together for us, but the three below are good example some of the avenues we explored.

We toyed with the structure of the “tucked” Technology and also playing off the leg of the V into an exclamation point. In the end, the further versions were just options we said “No” to and the original structure won out. I have witnessed this extra step of creation with clients before and commented to Sarah I wouldn’t do that … but I did.

The Final Logo Result
Below is the winner as you already noticed from our website or blog header. It was a great experience and one that was truly productive thanks to Sarah’s expertise and guidance. If you are considering a logo design or a redesign, make sure you can see an example of a similar process from your contracted designer. Logo design is not just a one and done “here you go”, but a process of planning, creativity and options. A good logo designer helps you throw the right stuff at the wall and then helps you see what best sticks.
